These routes are suggestions - and they have been ridden by the BCAG members, but we can't, of course, guarantee that these routes are safe for anyone and everyone (some have tough climbs, some have off road bits - though of a mild variety - and some sections of main road) - so take care out there!

A JOLLY GOOD RIDE! This ride starts and finishes at Hebden Bridge which can be reached from Bradford by train. It is about 24 miles round but has some very tough climbs in it. From Hebden Bridge Station take the main road towards Todmorden for a short while. Just past the road to Heptonstall is a side road on the right without a sign, but looking up it you will see a church and a very steep hill. Cycle or walk up here and at the top head for Blackshaw head. The road from here to Mereclough is signed “Burnley”. At Mereclough turn right and follow towards Colne, straight through Worsthorne and up and down, up and down until you reach Haggate. At Haggate turn right and follow the road until you see a sign to Hebden Bridge. Take the right turn to Hebden Bridge, swoop down the hill and crawl back up the other side. The road then passes Widdop Reservoir and is a gentle incline for a change. After passing the Pennine Way and the Pack Horse Inn you will descend very steeply to the waters meet at the top of Hardcastle Crags. Mount steadily back up to Slack and then descend through or round Heptonstall again to Hebden Bridge. A detour to the New Delight Inn at Colden is well worth it for their beer brewed on the premises (- as you come down from Widdop Moor, you’ll go through a small hamlet called ‘Slack’ about a mile out of Hebden Bridge - take the right turn in Slack, along Smithy Lane, for Colden and you’ll find the pub very easily - NB it would then be walkable [c. 2 miles, mostly downhill] to Hebden Bdge rail station should you get, err, enthusiastic about the beer...) Pam Ashton.
