BCAG is campaigning
about many things. Our newsletter contains lots of information about them.
They include:
- Cycle-Friendly Infrastructure
(bike lanes, safe cycle parking, etc)
- West Yorkshire Cycleway
(when, oh when?....)
- Health Issues - Ride A Bike
and Get Fit(ter)
- Pollution (particulates, etc)
- Bicycle User Groups (see the
link)
- Integrated Transport (e.g.
bikes on trains)
- Road Schemes (watching out
for 'improvements' that mean dangerously higher car speeds)
So come along and get involved, and
in any case you can always...
The " What Can I Do?" slot
You're busy. Work is up to here;
the kitchen needs re-decorating; the kids have to be taken here, there
and everywhere, etc., etc. You can't make meetings, but you want to do
your bit. Here's how:
- Write to and ring your local
councillor or one who's in the news on a cycling or traffic related
subject. Find out who runs your Area Panel. Ditto your health authority
or hospital management. Items can include potholes (751000 [that's the
phone no., not the number of them]), W. Yorks. Town & Country Cycleway,
damaged railway cycle lockers, lack of facilities such as cycle stands,
rat runs, local traffic calming safe routes to school and so on.
- We'd appreciate copies of letters/calls
and any replies so that we can follow them up.
- Write to the T&A or your
local paper - Mike Healey's printer is wearing out. It'll keep the adrenalin
going when the weather's too foulor a bike ride. Keep an eye on issues
coming up like car parking, car taxes and, especially, anything in the
media on the usual anti-cyclist drivel. Remember, letters and phone
calls add political weight to our actions and… We need far more
facilities, BUGS, bike lanes, access, money - go to it!
- Write an article on something that bugs you about provision for cyclists
in Bradford - and send it to us for publication in Bikerights.
